Trip Overview

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a remote trek into the remote Himalayas of Nepal. It lies in the Taplejung district of Nepal, in the north-east of Nepal, extending to the border of Sikkim, India. The mountain rises above sea level at an elevation of 8586 m, making it the second-highest point in Nepal and the third-highest mountain in the world. Technically, the Kanchenjunga word is derived from Tibetan origin and refers to the “Five Treasures of the Great Snow.”.

Kanchenjunga is awesome if anyone wants to be fed with the mesmerizing views of the White Mountains and experience the pristine natural beauty of Nepal. Due to the remote location of the place, it has the lowest traffic on the trail. Thus, it has preserved its unspoiled natural as well as cultural beauty. The trek to Kanchenjunga base camp is quite challenging, as it includes walking up to a higher altitude. Pathibara Temple is one of the highlights, as it is a very important holy pilgrimage site for many Nepalese and Indians.

The journey begins in Kathmandu after a guided tour of the UNESCO-listed world heritage sites in the Kathmandu valley. The trail continues up to Ghumsa on the north, where it continues to the Kanchenjunga base camp (5143 m), blessing you with stunning views of the mountains and the landscapes. Then cross two passes and carry on the journey to the east, making it to the ultimate destination, Yalung Base Camp (4500m). Making a return to Taplejung, which is the starting and ending point of the trek.

The Kanchenjunga region is a reflection of Gurung and Limbu cultures, as most of the inhabitants are from these ethnic groups. Enjoy the hospitality of the locals, plus experience the verdant green forests, alpine meadows, wetlands, and glaciers as you make your way through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, which is home to several endangered and vulnerable species of fauna.

Join Highland Eco Trek for this amazing journey and enjoy the blend of cultural and natural splendor.
