Trip Overview

The Tiji Festival Trek in Mustang is one of the most fascinating festivals celebrated by the local people of Mustang, especially by the Gurung and Bista communities. The Tiji Festival is an annual 3-day festival with Tibetan rituals celebrated grandly among the residents. The dates of the Tiji festival are on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of May. According to the lunar calendar, this festival most profoundly celebrates the myth of a son who saved the Mustang Kingdom from great destruction. “Tiji” is abbreviated from the word “Tempa Chirim,” which means “Prayer for World Peace.”. During this festival, people in Mustang dress in nice traditional outfits and celebrate the festival happily and with contentment. The monks of Lo Manthang perform the mask dance, which is a sacred ritual. This year, the festival is celebrated in May and June. Specifically, from May 30 to June 1.

The Tiji Festival Trek is a way that can be taken as a cultural tour too. Not only would you be walking through the trails of the Mustang, but this grand festival opens the doors for cultural exploration. Since the lifestyle of the Mustang is influenced by Tibetan culture, the festival is celebrated with Tibetan rites and rituals. This trek is organized so that trekkers will be able to see the blissful culture of Nepal and the glorious Himalayas of Nepal. The beautiful place of Mustang is a gateway to Saribung Peak too. Every year, many enthused climbers make their journey to climb Saribung Peak in the Nar, Phu, and Annapurna ranges.

This 3-day festival is celebrated contentedly by the residents, visitors, and trekkers. This trek is perfect for trekking in Nepal as part of a cultural tour; thus, join the Highland Eco Trek and participate in this auspicious festival.
